TRAVELERS OFFERS TEXAS HYBRID DRIVERS 10 PERCENT DISCOUNT ON AUTO INSURANCE

Complements Austin's "Drive Clean-Park Free" Program and San Antonio's Free Parking Program to Promote Hybrid Ownership in Texas

HARTFORD, Conn., September 25, 2006 - Texas hybrid owners can now take advantage of a 10 percent discount* on auto insurance offered by Travelers, the company announced today.  The discount complements other Texas perks for hybrid drivers.

The city of Austin's "Drive Clean-Park Free" program gives city-registered owners of hybrid vehicles that receive an EPA air pollution score of eight or better a $100 pre-paid parking card to park at any of the city's 3,700 parking meters. Beginning in May 2006, the city of San Antonio implemented a one-year pilot program allowing owners of hybrid vehicles to park for free at parking meters, once they have registered their vehicles with the city's Parking Division.

 "San Antonio and Austin are leading the charge in Texas to promote hybrid vehicle ownership," said Greg Toczydlowski, senior vice president of product management for Travelers. "We salute this spirit of forward-looking innovation and will continue to develop products and services that evolve to fit the changing needs of our Texas customers."

Earlier this year, Travelers became the first auto insurance company to offer a discount to hybrid drivers on a national level and has been steadily rolling out the discount state by state. In addition to Texas, the company most recently made the discount available in New Jersey, bringing the total number of states in which the discount is offered to 40.

Texans registered 9,632 new hybrid vehicles in 2005, third to California, with 52,619 registered hybrids. Florida ranks second with 10,470 registered hybrids, followed by New York and Virginia.

To give hybrid owners-and those considering purchasing a hybrid car-a central place for information and entertainment related to hybrid driving, Travelers created www.hybridtravelers.com.  Visitors can get up-to-date information on federal and state tax benefits and other perks for hybrid drivers, as well as access an agent locator, obtain policy information and get an insurance quote. The site also features the Early Adopt-o-meter, which ranks a visitor's penchant for embracing new technologies, and a place where enthusiasts can share their stories as "hybrid travelers."

The discount for hybrid drivers is the latest in a long series of firsts for the company that wrote the first automobile insurance policy in 1897. Other firsts include the first policy covering electronic data processing liability in 1961, the first policy to protect individuals using personal computers for online banking in 1997, and the first insurance company to offer consumers protection against identity fraud in 1999.
