California Hybrid Facts:
• Arnold Schwarzenegger signed bill that promises to reduce California’s greenhouse emissions by 25 percent by the year 2020.
• Californians registered 52,619 new hybrid vehicles in 2005.
• Los Angeles tops the list of hybrid-driving cities with 22,922 new hybrid cars registered, followed by San Francisco with 15,828.
• On September 29, 2006, Governor Schwarzenegger signed a bill that will allow 10,000 more hybrid cars to obtain permits to drive in carpool lanes.
• The Los Angeles City Council votes to extend a free metered-parking program for LA hybrid drivers in the city limits to 2008.
• California hybrid owners can now take advantage of a 10 percent discount* on auto insurance offered by Travelers

California Hybrid News:
• Students from “SUV families” use hybrid vehicles in Drivers Ed Direct schools in Southern California.
• EV Rental Cars opened its doors in California in December 1998 offering a fleet of all-environmental hybrid-electric vehicles at five airport locations.
• With a focus in Southern California, scientists are developing plug-in technology allowing hybrid vehicles to operate almost exclusively in electric mode and with just a half gallon of gas.
• UCS's Clean Vehicles Program in Berkeley, California develops and promotes strategies including building better cars such as hybrids and advanced fuel-cell vehicles to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of the US transportation system.
